Homemade Moon Sand

Homemade Moon Sand

This started out as something fun, cheap and easy for the kids. I googled and found several recipes online. After an hour of debating I finally picked the easiest one (I had the ingredients on hand). The boys loved it! Their enthusiasm was creating quite the mess in the dining room so I moved them (and the sand) out to the deck. I gave them explicit instructions to keep the sand on their picnic table. Of course they didn’t listen. Moon Sand was EVERYWHERE!!!! I couldn’t bring myself to take a picture. It was that bad! I knew it was supposed to rain later that day so I thought the rain would wash the mess away. It didn’t. It basically turned our Moon Sand into Moon Goop. By mid morning the sun baked the Moon Goop into Moon Cement. 3 hours of power washing later (by my husband) the deck was better than ever. ๐Ÿ˜

He has banned me from Pinterest (yeah right).

I’m having a hard time calling this a Pinterest fail because the kids had a blast and I got a super clean deck. My husband doesn’t share that sentiment.

Mix 9 cups of flour with 1 1/4 cups of baby oil. Don’t say I didn’t warn you….

* Homemade Moon Sand should stay fresh for up to a month in a well sealed container. If it starts to dry out, sprinkle a little water (1 teaspoon at a time).
